How and why you should be calibrating your thermometer

We all know that temperature monitoring goes hand-in-hand with safe food handling. But why is it important to have an accurate thermometer and make calibrating a routine part of your food handling program? Why do yo ned to calibrate the thermometer? Here are other benefits you may not have considered in the second part of our three-part series of thermometers.

Quality of Food Prepared

The quality of the meal preparation can be determined by two factors. The first one is the state of ingredients before the meal is prepared. The second determining factor is the cooking process itself. Using an accurate thermometer ensures you are not overcooking or undercooking items and is a way to ensure product consistency regardless of who is cooking.

Inventory Management = Money Saved

Restaurants spend a significant amount of resources on inventory. We know that food is perishable so the safety of ingredients can be increased by storing them at the optimal temperature. This way, your profitability will be spared from waste due to incorrect storage temperatures.

Improves the Accountability

Using thermometers increases employee accountability in their respective tasks and checklists by adding a measurable benchmark to verify their task reached whatever temperature threshold was predetermined. Documentation of temperature readings establishes a history of accountability which may be used to protect your business in the event of a suspected food-borne illness outbreak should occur. (there is something missing from this. It doesn't feel like it completes the goal of what you are trying to say.The paragraph still needs some work)

To Comply with Food Safety Standards

When cooking, if food temperatures are maintained appropriately, then food should remain from pathogenic bacteria growth. If food is not cooked, held, or cooled at the appropriate temperature, pathogenic bacteria may reproduce rapidly.
